On February 11th, on his 84th birthday Paul Bocuse will be granted the famous Kungsfenan 2009 prize in Gteborg, Sweden.
Due to his great contribution in promoting fish in gastronomy since the creation of Bocuse dOr back in 1987, Paul Bocuse was chosen for the Kungsfenan Swedish Seafood Award 2009 in the Maritime Gastronomy category.
One of the most famous and influent chef worldwide, granted with 3 Michelin stars since 1965, Paul Bocuse created in 1987 the Bocuse dOr, which is to be considered today as the most prestigious and coveted culinary competition.
The next competition to take place in January 2011 in Lyon will feature national selections in 56 countries. 3 continental selections will take place in Latin America, in Asia and Europe.
Bocuse dOr was created to promote the great diversity of culinary heritage throughout the world. Each candidate is required to express his creativity and skill on two basic products (a fish and a meat). Fish and seafood have been therefore highlighted for 23 years by the best young talented cooks worldwide. A special fish prize is awarded during each competition.
The award ceremony of Kungsfenan Prize will be held at the Gteborg Opera, February 11th, 2010. This Swedish city is a twin city from Lyon where Bocuse dOr is taking place every two years during Sirha Rendez-vous mondial restauration & htellerie, one of the leading trade show in the world for restaurant, hotel and food.
In September 2007, Lyon and Gteborg decided to create the Dlice good food cities of the world – network together with 4 other cities (www.delice-network.org). Todays 18 cities will also meet in Gteborg, on February 10th 12th.
Kungsfenan, since 2002 awarded for Sustainable Fishing and Maritime Gastronomy, aims to inspire and stimulate to a continued sound development of the Swedish food tradition, where nutritious fish always has been, and should be, one of the main ingredient. 400 000 SEK will be globally awarded to the different categories of the prize.
Gteborg is located on the Swedish west coast, a city with half a million inhabitants boasting 5 Michelin star restaurants. Local fish and shellfish of the best quality feature the restaurant menus, carefully prepared by the chefs to keep it simple and natural flavours. The colder waters of the North Sea lead to slower growth and a fuller flavour.
