Some Find Stable Seafood Prices In Alabama

Jun. 9–Fresh seafood has become scarcer in the wake of the Gulf oil spill, leading to higher prices at some local and Gulf Coast markets.

Careful shoppers, however, can find stores with little or no changes in the cost and availability of shrimp, snapper and other popular seafood fare.

Kanice Couch, manager of McCollum's Catfish and Seafood Restaurant in Decatur, said the restaurant on Gordon Terry Parkway has raised prices on the oysters brought in from the Gulf.

"The oysters are hard to get, and right now we are really just having to work on a week-to-week basis," she said.

"But we have had to raise some prices."
