All those Pennsylvania residents busy baking pies and cakes to benefit their church or other charities can now breathe easy: they’re no longer criminals. Or they won't be once Gov. Ed Rendell (D) signs a new pro-baking bill passed by the state legislature.
Philadelphia radio station KYW reported Sunday that it’s about to be safe again for folks to whip up baked goods and donate them for sale at the church hall, school or local fire company without breaking the law.
Last year, the state Department of Agriculture began shutting down bake sales, the station said, because the goodies were created by residents in their homes and not in state-inspected kitchens.
