The Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market (‘LA Market’) community is participating in a blood drive with City of Hope on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Valley Fruit & Produce (‘Valley’) – a founding owner/tenant of the market – is coordinating the drive, whose goal is 100 blood donations for the day. While this is Valley’s second consecutive year organizing this drive, this is their first time extending the invitation to their fellow market tenants. “The blood drive is a great opportunity to come together as a market, as the produce industry, and to show unity as a community.” says Douglas La Londe – Valley’s COO.
With the help of its neighbors, Valley expects to easily exceed the 61 donors that participated last year. Carrie La Londe – Valley’s CFO is also strongly behind the initiative: “Our employees were so united in supporting the blood drive last year, that we thought it would be a great opportunity to expand the effort to a market-wide event.”
City of Hope couldn’t be happier to be working with Valley again. “Blood donations from the community are vital to the work City of Hope does every day. We are delighted to hold another blood drive with Valley, and the rest of the LA Market community” explains Donna Collins – Recruitment Coordinator at City of Hope’s Amini Blood Donor Center.
