Florida’s Green Industry Generates Nearly $42 Billion in Economic Impact

In 2023, Florida's green industry generated nearly $42 billion in economic impact, supporting over 279,000 jobs and contributing $14 billion in labor income, as reported by Farm Credit of Central Florida. The industry's growth is driven by Florida's population increase and demand for housing and infrastructure, leading to a notable rise in landscape services. With over 18,000 establishments, Florida stands as a national leader in floriculture sales.
Orlando, FL – A new economic impact report from Farm Credit of Central Florida reveals Florida’s green industry generated nearly $42 billion in total economic impact in 2023. The industry supported more than 279,000 jobs for Floridians and contributed $14 billion in labor income.
The report credits Florida’s steady population growth as a key driver. Demand for housing, commercial development and infrastructure continues to rise, bringing with it increased need for landscape design, maintenance and plant production.
Since 2011, the landscape services sector has added roughly 30,000 jobs. Employment in the nursery and landscape industry has seen a 43 percent rise in plant production jobs, directly employing almost 27,000 Floridians.
“This kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident,” said Tal Coley, chief executive officer of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA). “It’s the result of innovation and a willingness to adapt. Florida’s green industry delivers an impact felt in every corner of our state—connecting communities, supporting jobs and shaping how Florida grows.”
Florida leads the nation in floriculture sales and is home to more than 18,000 green industry establishments, including over 11,000 landscape service businesses.
