Two Bay Area sustainable seafood specialists mentioned in my Sunday Food & Home story–about a group of West Coast fish newly deemed sustainable by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program–are expanding to new areas and into retail.
Joe Conte of high-end wholesale seafood company Water2Table plans to open a seafood market and restaurant in San Francisco, while Kenny Belov of San Francisco seafood distributor TwoXSea, McFarland Springs Trout Farm in Lassen County and Fish restaurant in Sausalito is bringing the same combination of businesses to Oregon.
Belov is one of the Bay Area’s most outspoken proponents of local and sustainable seafood; for example, in the story he said Seafood Watch sustainability standards aren’t high enough. Right now, he is in final negotiations on a lease to open a version of TwoXSea in Portland, with a retail market and hopefully a restaurant to follow in the same location.
