A new survey finds one in three Floridians cutting back on purchasing fresh produce while another finds some families skipping meals or eating less.
One in three Floridians are cutting back on buying fresh produce because of escalating prices and 70% say their financial situation has worsened because of increased food costs.
Those are the findings of two new statewide surveys, one by the lending company Advance America, the other by the nonprofit No Kid Hungry Florida. The latest Consumer Price Index numbers show the cost of putting food on the table continues to climb. Inflation in May rose 4.2%, while the average price of fresh fruits and vegetables rose 6.7%.
Even with growing hopes that the Iran war is finally nearing an end, economists warn grocery prices could rise further, not fall, in the months ahead.
