FOWLER, Calif., – In efforts to continue its social sustainability outreach, Bee Sweet Citrus coordinated with United Health Centers (UHC), Life Saving Images and Susan G. Komen’s Central Valley operation to host a free mammogram screening event for its employees.

“The health of our employees is incredibly important to the Bee Sweet Citrus team,” said Bee Sweet Citrus Human Resources Manager Jasmine Reynozo. “We want to provide them with services that aid their well-being and shed light on the importance of preventative health care practices.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is commonly found in women 50 years or older, but can also affect younger women. In fact, 11% of breast cancer cases in the United States are in women younger than 45 years of age. Mammograms, however, have been known to help women detect threats early on; giving them a higher chance of recovery.

“Many women chose not to schedule a visit with their doctor because they are either too busy, or too scared to do so,” said United Health Centers Enrollment Specialist Supervisor Victor Gonzalez. “These events give them the opportunity to find out what’s going on without interfering with their schedule, and can also allow them to talk to a health care professional about any questions they may have.”

Mammograms can help detect breast cancer in its early stages, when the chance of survival is high. Some organizations suggest that women over the age of 50 schedule a screening on an annual, or biannual, basis.

“Prevention is key to tackling life-threatening diseases,” said Life Saving Images CEO Jim Dury. “I have three family members that have breast cancer; all later-stage cases that could have possibly been detected early on.”

Coordinating annual mammogram screening events is just one example of Bee Sweet’s ongoing social sustainability initiative. Other perks include basic medical and dental services at local UHC facilities, and access to a 401k and a section 125 plan. #
