When I was in college, football game days were all about tailgating. Beer was
the drink of choice, while true sustenance came in the form of “brats”- that’s
the kind of food you get when you’re rooting for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Bratwurst became so synonymous with football, in fact, that it’s one of the
foods I still gravitate toward during big games. I’ll be hosting a Super Bowl
party this afternoon, and you can bet that brats will be on the menu, along with
some spicy mustard and sauerkraut.
Fortunately, brats are pretty easy to find, sold in grocery stores around the
bay. We found seven brands to taste, sold either packaged or in bulk at the
butcher counter.
