A family that has built a reputation for nearly 80 years as a State Fair Italian sausage favorite is hoping that the Mille name will find the same success in supermarket cases.
"We'd love to someday become a national product," said Amatore Mille, 66, one of the third-generation owners of the retail sausage venture.
Amatore and his brother, Michael Mille, who runs the business, acknowledge they have a long way to go toward that ambitious goal.
For now, Mille sausage is sold at the Balistreri-owned Sendik's chain, Grasch's, Woodman's, Metcalfe's Sentry, and several other independent grocers in the Milwaukee area and northern Illinois.
