WASHINGTON – Ghanaianway Restaurant and Grocery LLC in Newark, N.J., is recalling approximately 5,970 pounds of fresh salted lamb products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The fresh, raw, salted lamb items were produced from March 11, 2025, to December 3, 2025. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]:
- 15-lb. plastic-lined boxes containing “GHANAIANWAY AFRICAN FOODS SALTED LAMB (KOOBI).”
The products subject to recall do not bear a USDA mark of inspection nor do they declare a best by or production date. Some packages do not bear a label at all. The affected products have a 1-year shelf life and were shipped to restaurant and retail locations in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The problem was discovered during routine FSIS retail surveillance activities. There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumer and restaurant refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. Restaurants are urged not to serve them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
Consumers and members of the media with questions about the recall can contact Mr. James Ken-Kwofie, CEO, Ghanaianway Restaurant and Grocery LLC at Ghanaianway2023@gmail.com.
