There are plenty of reasons why you need to attend the 2010 WF&FSA Conference, but this one is particularly unique. WF&FSA has teamed with the Floral Logistics Coalition for a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Miami International Airport cargo facilities immediately preceding the WF&FSA Conference, November 3-5, 2010 in Miami.
The tour will give participants a look at how fresh cut flowers and greens clear the airport in Miami. The tour will be strictly limited based on the number of people that can be accommodated at the facilities that will be visited. Preference will be given to those who are also registered for the WF&FSA Conference. The tour will be filled on a first comefirst- served basis. Because of security issues there will be no on site registrations. The tour will last approximately four hours.
There will be many elements to the tour, which allows attendees to see a complete picture of floral logistics. The tour will begin with a first-hand look at incoming flights and products, the airport’s layout and cargo vs. passenger flights. Next, the tour will visit airline facilities to observe how product is handled and prepared for inspection. You will learn how product is inspected, released and distributed.
In some cases flowers and greens need to be fumigated. The tour will also visit a fumigation facility to observe the process.
When the flowers are released from the airlines they go to an importer or directly to a trucking company. The tour will visit both importers and trucking companies to observe the process and the role of each.
In order to participate in the tour you will need to arrive in Miami November 2, 2010, one day earlier then the start of the conference, because the tours will start at 7:30 am, Wednesday, November 3, 2010. There will be a fee for participating in the tour. Registration will open July 5, 2010.
