What makes a bunch of flowers exceptional? At Floriade yesterday floral designer Bernie Gadd took an audience to the core of a successful arrangement.
''You need a focal flower, the focus point of your arrangement; a transitional flower, such as baby's breath; and a semi-transitional flower, which complements your focal flower but does not detract from it,'' Mr Gadd said.
''Your eye is able to relax on the transitionals as opposed to the focal flower.
''The aim of the sessions has been to give people information, particularly about longevity of flowers.
