Walking through his Waynesboro greenhouse, the Dutch-born owner of the Bloomaker flower company pauses to take a call, steps out of earshot and, within a moment is back, announcing:
"They want it next week."
Big Lots stores had just ordered 2,000 of the easy-to-raise amaryllis bulbs that he and Fishersville gardening mogul Mark Viette recently have developed.
The more laid-back Viette just laughed.
The two men have an informal alliance — Dutch flower business expertise and Augusta County horticulture — that has found business opportunity in helping time-pressed Americans raise flowers.
