Flowers Prohibited From Entering The United States

LAREDO, Tx.- With the traditional Mother's Day celebration right around the corner Customs and Border Protection advised that some types of flowers cannot be crossed into the United States because they may be carrying some pests and diseases.

Rick Pauza, spokesperson of the federal agency, mentioned that the Department of Agriculture prohibits the crossing of certain types of flowers, especially those that can be carriers of some pests such as Citrus Greening, which can be devastating for the citrus producers in the country.

He also mentioned that it is very common to use the muralla herb or the orange jasmine to decorate flower arrangements and that this plant can contain the Diaphorina citri Kuwayama insect that causes Citrus Greening.
