The Dahl family's passion for baking will continue, but the brand that helped launch it will be phased out by the end of the year.
NatureBake's curtain call comes as Dave's Killer Bread expands throughout the West and eyes a nationwide reach. By January, the family-owned Milwaukie company will sell exclusively under the Dave's brand, founded seven years ago at the Portland Farmers Market.
Customers snatch up 400,000 loaves of Dave's Killer Bread every week. The brand's available in 10 states, and there are plans to expand to several more within the next year, its 49-year-old namesake Dave Dahl said.
"Sometimes I miss the old days of just making a few batches of bread and taking it down to the Farmers Market," he said. "It's kind of a bittersweet thing to have this kind of success."
