Consumers are spending ever smaller amounts on the purchasing of rose bouquets, the most recent market analysis by the Dutch Product Board for Horticulture indicates. The flower remains the prime choice when it comes to sold mono bouquets, but that statistic cannot hide the fact that the market share of roses is slowly dwindling.

The analysis by the Product Board, which deals with the second quarter of 2011, shows that the share of purchased mono bouquets that consist of roses has fallen to just 31 percent. Two years ago during the same period, that percentage still stood significantly higher: at 38.

The second most popular bloom when it comes to single-flower bouquets, the tulip, has managed to retain its share of approximately 20 percent. Its numbers are also much more stable than those of the rose, varying little over the years. With only 3 percent of the mono bouquet market, the lily follows at a safe distance.
