(L-R) Dr. Joseph R. Hibbeln and Dr. Tom Brenna

Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP) is proud to announce that two of the esteemed scientists on the Scientific Nutrition Advisory Council (SNAC), Dr. Joseph Hibbeln and Dr. Tom Brenna, have been named to prominent government committees. Their appointments highlight their decades of leadership in the fields of nutrition and public health.

Dr. Joseph Hibbeln, a renowned psychiatrist and nutritional neuroscientist, has been appointed to the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). ACIP plays a critical role in shaping U.S. vaccine policy by developing recommendations for vaccine use in the civilian population. Dr. Hibbeln’s appointment reflects his expertise in nutritional science and his commitment to advancing public health through evidence-based practices.

Dr. Tom Brenna, chair of Seafood Nutrition Partnership’s SNAC and a professor of pediatrics, chemistry, and human nutrition at the Dell Medical School and the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, has been appointed to the FDA’s expert panel on infant formula. Dr. Brenna’s research has significantly influenced the inclusion of omega-3 DHA in infant formulas, enhancing nutritional standards for infants. His appointment to this panel underscores his ongoing commitment to improving infant nutrition and health. Dr. Brenna was recently interviewed by NPR and The New York Times about the importance of omega-3s.

“We are proud to recognize these outstanding scientists for their invaluable contributions to SNP’s Scientific Nutrition Advisory Council. Their dedication to advancing evidence-based research is not only helping to shape federal nutrition policy, but also making a lasting, positive impact on our nation’s public health,” said Linda Cornish, Founder and President of Seafood Nutrition Partnership.
