McLEAN, Va. – During the 2016 Lenten Season, the National Fisheries Institute’s Shrimp Council partnered with a national pasta brand to engage consumers and support Council’s members during one of the shrimp industry’s brisk selling periods.

The 2016 edition of The Shrimp Council’s signature “Shrimp & Pasta Party” – an expressive celebration of one of America’s favorite recipe pairings, shrimp and pasta – featured a partnership that included Barilla, a national pasta brand, and a trio of well-known, influential food bloggers.

The intent of the 2016 Shrimp & Pasta Party was to equip the public with unique, easy-to-prepare shrimp and pasta dishes perfect for Lent, a period when countless consumers are more-actively seeking new seafood recipe ideas.

“While shrimp and pasta go together all year long, they really shine as a versatile mealtime combination during the season of Lent, when consumers are craving more quick-and-easy seafood dishes,” said Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President with the National Fisheries Institute.  “Our Shrimp & Pasta Party campaign was designed to remind consumers of this unbeatable duo of dinner-table favorites that they can order in restaurants or create at home.”

“It made perfect sense to partner with Barilla, a national pasta brand that’s always in my own pantry,” Dashiell explained.  “And to inspire consumers to crave all the different combinations of delicious shrimp and high quality pasta, we recruited three talented food bloggers to give everyone a taste of the limitless possibilities.”

For the 2016 Shrimp & Pasta Party – which ran from mid-February through early March – the featured bloggers were each asked to create an original shrimp and pasta recipe using at least one of the following pasta products from Barilla: Barilla Penne, Barilla White Fiber Rotini, Barilla Pronto Linguine, and Barilla Collezione Bucatini.

Set loose with those basic guidelines, the bloggers produced this lineup of enticing shrimp and pasta recipes to keep shrimp top-of-mind for their online followers to enjoy either at home with these easy-to-make recipes or in restaurants:

“Our blogger ambassadors developed some terrific recipes that showcase the delicious combination of America’s favorite seafood and Barilla’s world-famous pasta, and how the two can come together to deliver something amazing,” Dashiell said.

Through a combination of blog post readership and accompanying social media engagement, the online 2016 Shrimp & Pasta Party program to date has garnered more than 10.4 million impressions.
