STARRS POINT — Nova Scotia apple farmers are still feeling the ill winds of Arthur, as serious damage begins to show up in their orchards.

Fire blight, a destructive bacterial disease that harms the trees and reduces their ability to produce fruit, is spreading in orchards throughout the Annapolis Valley in the wake of the post-tropical storm on July 5.

It’s causing alarm as growers try to contain the problem. Some are pruning back their trees, while others are removing whole orchards.
