ATLANTA – Unipro Foodservice, the largest marketing and procurement cooperative for independent food distributors in the world, has awarded Ginsberg’s Foods owners Nancy and David Ginsberg with the Marty Whelan Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. The Atlanta, Ga. based company has over 650 members – all foodservice distributors – like Ginsberg’s Foods.

“The criterion for receiving the award include innovative thinking, developing creative marketing and sales strategies, commitment to the industry and dedication to superior customer service,” said Roger Toomey, President of Unipro. “Both David and Nancy have been passionate about our industry since I’ve known them.” The company joined Unipro 25 years ago.“Ginsberg’s Foods has been growing since our start as a local butcher shop in Hudson, NY in 1909,” said President David Ginsberg. “We are now including the fourth generation of the family in management and we continue to improve and expand.” Ginsberg’s Foods has announced plans to build a new larger distribution facility including a 65,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse that will allow the company to expand not only their selections of frozen products, but all their product lines, creating 51 new jobs and retaining 233 existing jobs.

Part of that increased storage is to accommodate the far-sighted vision of Vice President Nancy Fuller Ginsberg – known to Food Network viewers through her new cooking show – Farmhouse Rules. (Season two begins on Saturday, April 19th – 10:30am EST.) “There has been a real interest over the past few years in local farms,” she says. “We’re doing everything we can to create better outlets for these small producers – whether by promoting their products to our customers or serving on committees that work to support the regional agrarian economy.” The television show features trips to local farms and ways to include their products in fast, easy, family-friendly recipes.
