The Global Aquaculture Alliance has partnered with Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. to assist with the supermarket chain’s aquaculture sustainability program.
Reflecting its continued commitment to sustainable aquaculture, Wegmans will work with GAA to develop guidelines for its aquaculture program that require suppliers to source seafood from environmentally responsible sources. The areas of the supply chain to be covered are the processing facility, farm and hatchery.
Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain based in Rochester, New York, USA. Wegmans operates 77 stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
Wegmans’ seafood sustainability program is anchored by one very powerful statement: “We do it for our grandchildren.” In following this philosophy, it has made this commitment with GAA to have a real and lasting impact on the future of aquaculture and the wider supply chain.
The Global Aquaculture Alliance is proud to include Wegmans on the ever-expanding list of retailers that are taking a role in changing the course of aquaculture production.
“At GAA, our mission is simple: Feed the world through responsible aquaculture,” GAA Vice President of Global Market Development Peter Redmond said. “Our partnerships with retailers and suppliers around the world enable us to work towards this mission. We are proud to include Wegmans on that growing list of retailers and food service operators.”
