There are shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp and shrimp salad.
But there's one variety not included in that oft-quoted litany from the movie "Forrest Gump." There's also — believe it or not — Indiana shrimp.
And it's expected to get a lot more attention in the coming months as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico limits the supply of fresh-caught shrimp and raises concerns that seafood from the region could be contaminated.
About a decade ago, shrimp farms began popping up in the southern half of Indiana and throughout parts of the Midwest to meet increasing American demand for the seafood and to compete with imports from China.
