American Seafoods CAB Accepting Applications For Grant Program

A total of $30,000 will be allocated by the CAB in February to community projects addressing issues such as hunger, housing, safety, education, research, natural resources and cultural activities. Grant recipients will be selected at the CAB meeting on February 10.

Since 1997, the CAB has awarded community projects throughout rural Alaska with grants for their support and assistance in a variety of Alaska communities.

More than $32,000 was awarded to Alaskan organizations during the December 2010 CAB meeting. Bristol Bay Regional Food Bank ($3,000), Nelson Lagoon Department of Public Safety ($3,000), Unalaska Senior Citizens ($2,000) and Bristol Bay Native Association ($2,000) were four of the 32 organizations earning grants during the December program.

“Our goal is to provide assistance and financial support to organizations in Alaska that are making a real difference in the communities we operate in,” said Inge Andreassen, president of American Seafoods Company. “The people and organizations in Alaska are an important part of our business and we look forward to continuing the CAB grant program for many years to come.”

The CAB evaluates each proposal based on the following criteria: the need in the community, project benefits, the number of people that will benefit from the program, who the award is intended for, and the ability to garner additional funding.

Since its inception in 1997, the CAB Alaska community grant program has granted more than $900,000 to organizations and programs in rural Alaska
