Idaho's WinCo Foods Inc. is preparing to enter metro Phoenix's crowded grocery arena with a pair of discount superstores set to open around the first of April in Phoenix and Glendale.
The no-frills food stores, the first in a string planned for the region, are likely to shake up the metro Phoenix grocery market, already thought to be the most competitive in the nation.
WinCo aims to be the low-cost leader in all of its markets and has quickly grabbed market share in every new territory it has entered.
