US Foods Acquires Sparta Imports, Expands Specialty Food Offerings

ROSEMONT, Ill. – US Foods, one of the country’s most innovative food companies and leading distributors, today announced the purchase of Sparta Imports, Inc., of Columbia, S.C.

“US Foods is pleased to welcome Sparta Imports, which is recognized throughout the region as one of the leading sources of authentic, high-quality Greek and Mediterranean specialties,” said Durwood Owens, US Foods Columbia Division president. ”Sparta’s expertise and product offerings will significantly increase the variety of specialty products available to US Foods customers.”

Owens added that Sparta’s customers will benefit from access to the full range of food and food service products offered by US Foods.

Members of Sparta’s sales and procurement team will join US Foods. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
