College Station, TX – Aggie Dining announced that Sbisa Dining Hall at Texas A&M is the first university dining hall to become a 3-Star Certified Green Restaurant® in the state of Texas. Aggie Dining at Texas A&M partnered with the Green Restaurant Association to implement 39 environmental steps that focus on reduction in energy consumption, water usage, waste, and use of chemicals. Sbisa also has a full-scale recycling and composting program, and it sends its grease to be made into energy.
Restaurants consume 1/3 of all electricity in the retail sector. Dining out accounts for over half of our food budget. With issues of climate change, ocean pollution, and sustainable food at the forefront of this year’s headlines, it’s important to note Sbisa Dining Hall’s leadership in environmental sustainability.
