Organics Unlimited Releases 2026 GROW Impact Report

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Organics Unlimited, a family-owned organic banana and papaya grower and wholesaler, based in San Diego, has released its 2026 GROW Annual Impact Report, detailing the results of its community giving program launched in 2005.

GROW (Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers) funds education, healthcare, housing, and community development in the communities Organics Unlimited does business in, from the growing regions of Mexico and Ecuador to its home base in the San Diego–Tijuana border region, through a per-case contribution built into every sale: $0.60 for each case of GROW bananas and $0.40 for each case of papayas.

In Cerro de Ortega, GROW’s longtime partnership with Project Amigo supported 50 primary school students and 60 full scholarships for students in junior high through university. Three Becarias completed their university degrees in nursing, accounting, and international relations, bringing GROW’s total university graduates to 39, all of them first-generation college graduates. Programming this year included parent workshops on respectful parenting, career and financial education workshops for Becarios, new English classes across education centers, and community service projects ranging from clothing and food drives to a cleanup and composting day at our farm.

In Ecuador, GROW’s 2025/2026 nutrition program, launched with Children International-Guayaquil, screened over 10,000 children under 12 and identified 202 cases of malnutrition, each enrolled for specialized medical care, nutritional support, and caregiver guidance. The program also trained 55 community health promoters to monitor and follow up on cases locally, alongside caregiver workshops and health fairs run in partnership with Ecuador’s Ministry of Public Health.

In the San Diego-Tijuana border region, GROW supports Environmental Health Coalition’s Border Environmental Justice Campaign to protect the Arroyo Alamar, a binational ecosystem in Tijuana threatened by pollution and urban expansion. This year, the campaign advanced its community-based air quality monitoring program, helped secure two unanimous Tijuana City Council approvals toward declaring the Alamar a protected natural zone.
