Nova Scotia Farmers Hail Sobeys' Local Initiative

Sobeys’ huge retail support centre in Debert is critical to Nova Scotia producers like Eyking Farms in Boularderie Island, Cape Breton.
“For us in Cape Breton, we have some issues with logistics; we’re a little out of the way,” said John Eyking Jr. in an interview Thursday from the 300,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse in the Debert Industrial Park.
“It’s the only way we can probably survive.”
Eyking Farms grows lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes and cucumbers that are distributed through the Debert centre to Sobeys stores throughout Atlantic Canada.
