Leamington, Ontario – At this year’s Employer Council of Champions Summit, organized by Hire Immigrants Ottawa, Highline Mushrooms was named a recipient of the 2016 Employer Award for Refugee Employment for the outstanding support they provide to refugees and new Canadians in their integration journey into Essex County.
Nominated by the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, interviewees identified many positive aspects of being employed at Highline, including an English as a Second Language Program, an annual scholarship program, and part-time employment opportunities for the children of Highline associates. Researching and securing permanent employment can be a daunting task and Highline’s goal is to lessen some of the burden by hosting career pathway sessions, providing interpretation services during the interview process, and the opportunity to job shadow to better understand the intricacies of various roles.
"Highline Mushrooms is honored to have been nominated and selected for the Employer Award for Refugee Employment," said Glenn Martin, Highline Mushrooms’ President and CEO. "We thank all of our community partners, including the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, for the tireless work they do in helping refugees settle in our community. We also thank all of our Highline family, a diverse group of over 1150 individuals from all around the world. It is only through your dedication and efforts that we have become the largest mushroom grower in Canada and that we are able to fulfil our vision, “To passionately nourish people, community and environment.”
