Tailgate Parties In Retail Outlets Will Promote Beef, Wine

The tandem of meat and wine has extended from the dinner table to the grocery aisle.

With Beef Checkoff money, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association is joining forces with Sutter Home Family Vineyards in St. Helena, Calif., to put on a tailgate party.

Displays are up in the wine aisles of thousands of retail outlets offering customers $1-off coupons for beef and a sweepstakes for a trip to the Napa Valley.

Patrons can also win a one-year supply of propane for grilling from AmeriGas Cylinder Exchange.

"The reason we partner is we have two very strong categories — obviously wine and beef — and we're so grocery driven," said Wendy Nyberg, senior director of marketing for Trinchero Family Estates, which owns Sutter Home.
