When it comes to giving flowers, Valentine’s Day is right up there with Mother’s Day.
In 2010, retail flower sales hit $35.2 million, according to the latest statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
As I noted earlier this week, the average person will spend $126.03 this year on Valentine’s Day, with 36 percent buying flowers, according to the National Retail Federation .
But have you ever given much thought to where those flowers were grown? How they got here? And, how they have managed to stay fresh and alive for so long?
