Last month, the Americaflor Group was declared in reorganization under Colombian law due to an inability to cope with ongoing financial difficulties. Two of the group's flower farms have now been liquidated definitively, however, by order of the Colombian Superintendent.
The flower companies being liquidated are Floramérica and Comercializadora Caribbean. The Americaflor Group as a whole consists of 12 flower farms, the best known of which was Floramérica, one of Colombia’s first as well as well-established farms. The group employs an estimated 3600 people.
The Americaflor Group has been undergoing serious financial troubles for several years however. It was initially thought that restructuring or downsizing the companies might make them viable businesses once again, but for the two liquidated farms that stage has apparently passed now.
