Spring brings many reasons for celebration and this brings to mind flowers.
With the spring holidays of Passover and Easter on the horizon, three talented
Garaventas Florist and Gifts Shop associates helped out with ideas and helpful
tips for creating spring flower arrangements.
Established 40 years ago by Gary Garaventa as a one -person operation, this
local business icon has grown not only in expertise and experience but also in
size: It now has 10 employees. Both owners and staff have seen floral design
trends come and go and recognize the earmarks of time-tested classic floral
designs.
Sharing their insiders knowledge and techniques were Patty Garaventa, co-owner
and book-keeper; Pattys daughter Gina McClellin, described as a natural talent
and born into the business, now the assistant manager and floral designer; and
Cheryl Redfern, Garaventas manager and floral designer of 28 years.
While spring flowers often fade faster than others, the seasons flowers do
offer a nicer variety to work with, Redfern said. All the bulb flowers are
available: tulips, daffodils, irises, as well as sweet peas, peonies and
flowering branches, forsythia, cherry, quince and more.
