One of the most common questions I am asked and one of the more difficult to
answer simply is, “How long will this last?” referring to a bunch of flowers or
a potted plant. It’s like the question, “How high is the sky?”
There are so many variables. How warm is your room? What kind of light is
available? How often will you water or change the water? What stage do you
define as “dead?”
Just as you should learn what really fresh produce should look like, it is
important to learn what fresh flowers look like. Similar to most modern fruit
and vegetables, commercial flowers have been grown to fulfil a combination of
very specific requirements: ease of production, ease of harvesting, ease of
shipping and shelf life.
