On August 13-16, the Society of American Florists (SAF) held their annual Outstanding Varieties Competition in Marco Island, Fla.
For more than 25 years, industry players in floral trade have showcased over 5,000 of the finest fresh cut flowers, as well as plants and foliage. Varieties compete in 10 cut flower classes including: Rose, Garden Rose, Spray Rose, Chrysanthemum, Cut Bulb, Gerbera, Alstroemeria, Dianthus, Other Cut Flower and Decorative Foliage.
This year, Golden Flowers, a Miami distributor of fresh cut flowers representing more than 35 farms mainly from Colombia, won the Best in Class award in one category: Alstroemeria ‘Pumori’.
‘Pumori’ is a bi-color pink with a white center and mint green strokes highly recognized among florists for the way it opens up beautifully and symmetrically. ‘Pumori’ has at least 5 flowers per stem with a length of 75 centimeters.
Golden Flowers also took home Red Ribbons for Carnation ‘Mizuki’, Carnation ‘Olympia’, Miniature Carnation ‘Rafflesia’ and Chrysanthemum Spray ‘Maissy’. Additionally, Golden Flowers has proudly won 19 Best in Class awards over the last 10 years, the most in the OV Competition.
