Business Aims To Lower Floral Prices

Kimba Vasquez isn't a florist but recently started a company he believes could be a game changer for the industry.

Vasquez, of Indialantic, said his recently launched business, EZ Bloomers LLC, essentially works like 1-800-Flowers, FTD or Teleflora in that people use the service to order flowers and arrangements.

But EZ Bloomers' strategy prunes nearly all of the "middleman costs" associated with the transaction, providing savings to the consumer and florists and allowing more money to be spent on nicer flower arrangements.

Vasquez say the hidden fees and commissions of the bigger-named services add as much as 45 percent to an order's cost. EZ Bloomers, he said, doesn't charge any commission or a fee for ordering through the Web site. EZ Bloomers makes money by charging individual florists, in a transaction separate from the consumer order, $5.50 for every order brought to them.
