Publix to kids and their rushed parents: Let's do lunch.
On Thursday the Lakeland-based supermarket chain will begin offering pre-packaged kids meals at its store delis for $4 apiece. You might call it the Publix version of Lunchables, but the company says it wants to allay parents' concerns that buying a premade lunch means trading nutrition for convenience.
The Publix Deli meals will be prepared daily in-store and include vegetable and fruit sides along with fruit juice or milk. Publix says the meals were developed by an in-house dietitian and meet or exceed nutritional guidelines for sugar, fat and sodium content.
