Providence, R.I. — Celtic Blue Reserve from Glengarry Fine Cheese in Ontario, Canada, was named “Best of Show” among 1,779 entries at the American Cheese Society’s (ACS) 2015 Judging & Competition. The results were announced in a ceremony on Friday, July 31, at the 32nd Annual ACS Conference in Providence, R.I. In a tie for 2nd place overall is LaClare Farms Specialties, LLC’s Standard Market Cave Aged Chandoka from Wisconsin and Emmi Roth USA’s Roth’s Private Reserve from Wisconsin. Cellars at Jasper Hill from Vermont was awarded 3rd place overall for their Harbison.
“This is not only for me, but for Canada. This win is very important for the Canadian dairy industry. We have the confidence, and we can do this as well as anybody!” said Margaret Peters-Morris of Glengarry Fine Cheese on winning Best of Show.
The 2015 ACS Judging & Competition saw 1,779 entries of cheeses and cultured dairy products from 267 companies. Entering companies represented 31 U.S. states, and three Canadian provinces. Three hundred fifty-five ribbons were awarded: 95 first place ribbons, 127 second place ribbons, and 133 third place ribbons. For media interested in attending a Q&A with three of the Best of Show winners, there will be a “Winners’ Circle” media briefing held at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Saturday, August 1, from 10:30 – 11 a.m. in Show Suite C on the 4th floor of the Convention Center. Tom Kooiman, ACS Judging & Competition Chair, will also present key statistics and highlights from the Awards Ceremony. Following the briefing, the media are welcome to attend the Brunch of Champions, where they may sample winning cheeses, yogurts and butters.
The 33rd Annual ACS Conference & Competition will take place July 27 – 30, 2016 in Des Moines, Iowa.
