Part of the country visited the city last week, and now Ray Marsh Elementary School kindergartners through third-graders have a new appreciation for milk.

The Southwest Dairy Farmer’s Mobile Dairy Classroom, which featured Lexie, a Jersey milking cow, and a milking parlor, made a stop Friday at the school.

The presentation included a milking demonstration by hand and by machine.

Caroline Schmidt, first-grader, enjoyed the presentation by Ralph Keel, the mobile dairy classroom instructor.

“We got to see the cow’s udder and how he milked it,” Caroline said. “He squirted some of the milk on the ground. He told us about her babies.”
