Del Monte Fresh Produce Opening First Canadian Plant

Del Monte Fresh Produce is set to open its first Canadian plant in Oshawa by the end of the year.
The 108,000-square-foot facility will be a hub for the processing of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables, as well as distribution across Ontario and Quebec. The company and industry observers say there’s a growing demand for ready-to-eat produce, like the products that will be processed in Oshawa.
“Basically we did this because we’re successful in Canada,” said Danny Dumas, Del Monte’s vice president of sales in Canada. “It’s a big market for us and basically it’s a commitment to the country and also the consumer. We’re here to stay.”
Canadians may be used to seeing bananas and other produce from the company, which is separate from Del Monte Foods, the business behind canned goods on many grocery store shelves.
