LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Frieda’s Specialty Produce has been named an inductee of the National Women Business Owners Corporation’s (NWBOC) “Decades of Excellence” Hall of Fame at the national NWBOC conference in Florida this May. Frieda’s will be honored, among other companies, for being a Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) certified with NWBOC for 10 years or more.
NWBOC was the first national WBE certifier and is an approved third-party certifier for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Women Owned Small Business and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business contracting programs. Applicants for certification undergo a rigid review process to prove that a woman owns and controls the company, culminated by a site visit.
“We congratulate Karen Caplan on being inducted into the ‘Decades of Excellence’ Hall of Fame,” said Janet Harris-Lange, President of NWBOC. “Frieda’s has been certified annually since 2002. We applaud Ms. Caplan and wish her continued success!”
“We are proud to have been a certified WBE for 10 years,” said Karen Caplan, President and CEO of Frieda’s. “My mother, Frieda Caplan, pioneered her way through the produce industry over 50 years ago, when it was still ‘a man’s world.’ We have come a long way since then, and it’s truly an honor for my sister, Vice President and COO Jackie Caplan Wiggins, and I to continue to build Frieda’s legacy as one of the most prominent, women-owned businesses in the industry.”
