This is a favorite time of year for Monterey Mushrooms, and this year is no exception with the announcement of Monterey's annual scholarships. 135 students have received a total of $175,000 in scholarships for the school year of 2012-2013. This means that Monterey's scholarship program – initiated in 1992 – now has awarded over $1,842,000 to over 1,250 dependent children of Monterey employees.
Shah Kazemi, president and chief executive officer noted, "As we progress into this decade, it's essential that we maintain our innovation and strength – whether it's in the fields of teaching, health care, science, engineering or areas of higher learning – we must look to our coming generations to provide this critical knowledge." This affirms Monterey's dedication to helping the dependent children of Monterey's employees achieve scholastic excellence. "They are our vision, our future," continued Kazemi. Named for the late Carl Fields, the program remains a testament to his passion and equally strong dedication to the education of our youth.
Applications were received from Monterey Mushrooms' multi-site facilities located throughout North America. Of note, Monterey's facility in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico was represented for the second year in a row. Based on academic achievement, financial need and future potential, the awards are made for one year at a time, for a total of four years if the student continues to meet the criteria of the program. So it was a great year, and we applaud all recipients as they continue to strive to reach their future goals.
