Seattle, Wash.– The Essential Baking Company announced today the launch of its contemporary Take & Bake bread at Expo West 2018. Take & Bake—with the pervious boxed version called Bake-at-Home—is now sold at select grocers nationwide in the varieties of sourdough, rosemary, french, Italian and baguette. The Take & Bake rebrand is part of The Essential Baking Company’s broader initiative to reduce waste, from internal bakery procedures, to bread packaging.
Grain accounts for 18 percent of food waste as unpurchased product is typically thrown away at the end of the day. The Essential Baking Company’s Take & Bake oxygen-free FreshSEAL™ packaging is ideal for pantry storage and reduces labor, in-store handling, and ultimately, food spoils resulting in waste. The hand-crafted artisan bread’s minimal fresh seal packaging is now paper-free, and doesn’t require refrigeration or freezing anywhere in the process.
“The Essential Baking Company strives to reduce waste and practice sustainable food production, but 2018 marks new, ambitious goals for us,” says Tom Campanile, CEO and president of The Essential Baking Company. “From Take & Bake, to hiring a continuous improvement manager who will oversee bakery waste reduction, we’re determined to make eco-friendly changes as we continue to grow as a leading artisan bread company.”
On the inside, The Essential Baking Company’s Take & Bake bread is the same handmade, USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified product as any other loaf it bakes. Whereas other brands require refrigeration and add chemicals, Take & Bake is created in small batches using wild yeast and long fermentation without chemicals or preservatives and has a shelf-life of 180 days.
Founded in 1994 by George DePasquale, a 40-year bakery veteran, The Essential Baking Company now provides breads, pastries, crackers and desserts to grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, schools and hospitals across the Pacific Northwest and nationally with a number of growing Take & Bake and Bake-Off options. It also specializes in a Certified Gluten-Free line, including breads, pizza crusts, buns and more.
The Essential Baking Company will continue its current sustainability practices throughout 2018, including removing unpurchased bread from shelves each day and donating it to local food pantries or creating animal feed.
