PEAR HARVEST: It’s harvest time for Stemilt and their Rushing Rivers™ pears. The company has reached the halfway point of harvest and is now picking key winter varieties, including d’Anjou, the leading pear variety grown in the United States. In this photo, Concorde, a specialty variety, awaits harvest at a Stemilt pear orchard in Leavenworth, Washington. Leavenworth is part of the upper Wenatchee River Valley region, where many Rushing Rivers™ pears are grown. The region is well-known for having an ideal climate and conditions for pears because of the combination of the nearby Cascade Mountains and area rivers that keeps temperatures here cooler, allowing for great pear finish and qualities.
