Cache Of Vintage Sacramento Menus Whets Appetite For Nostalgia

A new generation of worldly chefs and top-tier restaurants has placed Sacramento prominently on California's culinary map. Never before in the history of the city's dining scene has there been such artistry and diversity.
Decades before our restaurant revolution, there was a generation of go-to spots that today are only memories. Places like Capitol Tamale, Stroh's Neptune Table, the Ram, Bedell's, Johnson's Del Prado, Robert's Fish Grotto and the iconic and dearly missed Coral Reef.
Wouldn't it be great to visit those classic dining rooms, or at least get a glimpse of their menus? We were able to do just that.
Enter Wally Clark, a fourth-generation Sacramentan who happens to be in possession of dozens of menus from restaurants that thrived here from the 1930s through the 1950s, and a few from the 1960s.
