BATON ROUGE — Private restaurants that buy Louisiana agricultural products, including seafood, would be eligible for a cash incentive under a program endorsed Monday by the Senate Finance Committee.

The Louisiana Buy Local program would pay 4 percent of costs incurred by a restaurant or chain during the fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

Senate Bill 81 by Sen. Fred Mills, R-Parks, does not include all Louisiana agriculture products, nor will it rely on taxpayer money.

The program would be powered by a private-public fund administered by the Louisiana Agricultural Finance Authority.
