Publix Commits To Sell Only Cage-Free Eggs By 2026

Publix has agreed to sell only cage-free eggs by 2026 after a push by animal welfare groups.

"We are committed to moving forward with this challenging and complex effort and will work toward being 100 percent cage free by 2026," the company's website was updated to say Friday.

Animal welfare groups have been pushing major grocery and restaurant chains to stop selling eggs produced by chickens that spend their lives in small cages. Winn-Dixie, Wal-Mart and Darden Restaurants all committed to stop selling eggs from chickens raised in cages and Publix was the last major retailer to adopt a cage-free policy.
