San Diego, CA (August 4, 2010) — The month of September serves as a yearly spotlight for Organics Unlimited’s GROW Fund (Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers). During GROW Month, the year-round efforts made to improve social programs in Mexico and Ecuador, are highlighted.
Since 2005, the GROW Fund has granted over $500,000 in support of social programs in Mexico and Ecuador, providing a hand up to workers and their families in the areas where Organics Unlimited bananas are grown.
In support of the 2009/2010 school year, GROW is funding education programs, community development, and health services including 9 university student scholarships, 19 junior high and high school students including a homework club, College Endowment Fund, Casa Amiga university housing program, GROW Education Center, Vision Clinic, Preventative dental health services, Community Education promotions, and micro-business training and support for Ecuadorian students.
“By utilizing small growers in Ecuador and Mexico, we are continuing our mission to provide better lives for the workers, their families, and future generations,” says Organics Unlimited President, Mayra Velazquez de Leon. “Every purchase of GROW bananas provides communities with a fund that goes solely toward programs that encourage health, education and well being,” says Velazquez de Leon.
Organics Unlimited is a San Diego-based distributor of organic produce from Mexico and South America, providing GROW-certified bananas. Organics Unlimited offers organic certification for the Asian markets through BioAgriCert, as well as USDA certification for the US and Canada through Organic Certifiers.
