SACRAMENTO – The California State Fair has announced the winners of the 2014 Commercial Cheese Competition. Cheese makers all over the State participated in the hope of being recognized as one of the best cheese makers in the state. Formal announcement of the competition winners will be made at The State Capitol and at The Club House at Cal Expo on Tuesday, June 24.
This year’s judges for the 2014 competition included: Darrell Corti, Sacramento Grocer and Food and Wine Guru; Mary Dedrick, Dedrick’s Main Street Cheese, Placerville; Lynn Devereux, Marin French Cheese and Laura Chenel Chevre; Sacha Laurin, Cheesemaker/Teacher, Many Moon Cheese, Davis Food Co-op; Jana Werner, Market Hall Foods; Kristi Bachman, The Cheese School; Les Wood, Retired, California Department of Food and Agriculture and Andrew Hillman, Owner, The Cultured and the Cured, Sacramento.
The commercial cheese scoreboard is broken down by flavor, texture, finish and color. All Best of Division and Best of Show winning cheeses will be displayed in the Save Mart Supermarket California’s Kitchen in Building B during the California State Fair which runs July 11 through July 27.
